A comical moment ensued during the Springboks Sevens side’s clash against Japan in Dubai on Friday when four Japanese players tried to hold up Blitzbok playmaker Selvyn Davids.
For over a minute, the Japanese quartet couldn’t dislodge the ball from Davids, and because the SA star’s knees hadn’t touched the ground, the referee couldn’t stop play.
Two Japan players eventually surrendered to give up possession, with SA scoring soon afterwards.

World Rugby’s laws stipulate that it remains open play until a player’s knee hits the ground – or if the player is taken into touch.
