Damian Willemse’s recent move to fly-half is one that plenty of South Africa fans like, as it makes them slightly more potent in attack.
Despite the attacking positivity that he brings to Boks, there is one major concern around his play that was recently raised by SuperSport pundits Swys de Bruin, Jonathan Mokuena and Robbi Kempson. The trio, alongside host Owen Nkumane, agreed that Willemse’s place kicking is letting the 24-year-old down currently, and is perhaps an area where Handre Pollard is ahead of him.
Where the pundits disagreed is whether Willemse needs a kicking coach or not, with everyone in the studio except Mokuena agreeing that he does.
This was the discussion:
Willemse is out of the Boks’ final match of the Rugby Championship this Saturday against Argentina in Durban after suffering a concussion. With Handre Pollard already injured and Elton Jantjies removed from the squad, Frans Steyn is set to start his first Test in the Bok No10 jersey in 14 years.
