Johhny sexton is expected to make his comeback as Ireland captain against Italy in the Six Nations on Sunday.
Due to a hamstring injury, the 36-year-old missed the defeat to France in Paris two weekends ago, with Joey Carbery making his first-ever Six Nations start in Sexton’s absence, and Jack Carty making a two-minute cameo off the bench.
Sexton, on the other hand, has recovered from his hamstring injury and is set to start in Ireland’s number 10 jersey this weekend.
The experienced out-half will address the media this afternoon during his captain’s press conference.
While it may have been tempting to start Carbery again against Italy this weekend, it looks like Ireland head coach Andy Farrell is more interested in getting Sexton back up to speed with another rest week ahead of the match against England in London on March 12.
Carbery is now expected to be a reserve against the Italians this weekend, and he will be hoping for a long run off the bench.
