Ireland head coach, Andy Farrell, has released 14 players from his Six Nations team so that they can play for their provinces this weekend.

Ireland’s head coach, Andy Farrell, has released 14 players from his Six Nations team so that they can play for their provinces this weekend.

Because there are no Six Nations games this weekend, Farrell has decided to release a handful of players who have played little or no rugby for Ireland in the last two weeks.

The 14 players will rejoin their respective provinces this weekend and will be ready for selection in the United Rugby Championship.

Munster will face Edinburgh on Friday, Leinster will face Ospreys on Saturday, Connacht will face Scarlets on Sunday, and Ulster will face the Dragons on Monday.

A two-day mini-camp will be held for players who have been retained.

On Thursday, the 23 players who were not sent back to their provinces will reassemble at the IRFU High Performance Centre on the Sport Ireland Campus for a two-day mini-camp.

Rob Herring of Ulster will participate in the mini-camp after missing Ireland’s first two Six Nations matches due to injury. After injuring his shoulder against France, Ronan Kelleher will be evaluated further by the Irish medical staff.

Johnny Sexton will continue his comeback after missing the game against France owing to a hamstring issue he suffered in training last week.

Retained by Ireland.
