Former Springbok Pedrie Wannenburg killed

At the age of 41, Former South African rugby star Pedrie Wannenburg was killed when his car was hit by a teen driver fleeing from police outside Houston.

 South Africa Rugby announced that Wannenburg died on Saturday, they stated that he “represented his country with aplomb” during his 20 Test appearances with the Springboks from 2002 to 2007.

Wannenburg died after being transported to the hospital on Friday evening, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said his eight-year-old son was also hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. His wife and children were also in the vehicle, however, it is believed that they were unharmed.

Gonzalez said on Twitter that the 16-year-old driver who hit Wannenburg’s car and two others has been charged with felony murder, reckless aggravated assault-serious bodily injury, and three counts of aggravated assault-bodily injury. The identity of the adolescent has not been revealed. After authorities attempted to execute a traffic stop, the driver fled.
