Federico Aramburu, a former Argentina rugby international, was shot and died in a pub in Paris on Saturday early, according to AFP sources close to the inquiry.

According to a police source, the incident occurred at 6 a.m. local time on the boulevard Saint-Germain on the Left Bank, following “a dispute” between two groups.

The parties split out, but the suspected perpetrators “returned shortly after with a vehicle and fired shots,” said the source.

“Several bullet marks” were discovered on the scene, according to a source close to the investigation, and the athlete died as a result of his injuries.

According to AFP, the Paris prosecutor’s office has begun a murder probe.

According to individuals close to the case, the suspects were still being sought late Saturday morning.

One of Aramburu’s companions, a former Biarritz teammate who preferred anonymity, told AFP they were in a well-known bar, with the Mabillon closing their night with hamburgers.

“There was an altercation, as there can be at the end of the evening,” the source said. “It was settled but the men came back and fired at Aramburu who took three bullets.”
